Liquid crystal mixtures suited to the display technology in question form the basis of every LCD. A liquid crystal mixture can consist of between eight and twenty single substances. Each single molecule has specific properties, which fulfill very specific display requirements. The requirements of the liquid crystal mixture's properties vary depending on the application. For example, a cell phone which is also used outside needs a mixture with greater temperature stability compared to a monitor which is only used indoors.
The table shows the properties of the liquid crystal mixtures and their influence on the specific performance of an LC display.
