Compatibility with plastic materials
No signs of incompatibility (corrosion, swelling, etc.) with 20% solution of IR3535® in ethanol or oily lotion were observed after storage for five month at 42°C with the following materials:
- HP Polyethylene
- Polyethylene (PE)
- Polypropylene (PP)
Contact with other plastic materials should be avoided. The materials could be swollen or partially dissolved.
As a general rule, the following formulations can be used with EMD Chemicals' IR3535®:
- Aqueous alcoholic lotions
- Pump sprays
- O/W emulsions (preferable with polymeric emulsifiers)
To obtain an adequate protection time, the concentration of IR3535® should be between 10% and 30% of the formulation. It is important to note that ingredients other than the insect repellent may have an impact on the efficacy of the formulation. Materials which could activate the host-finding mechanisms of the arthropods, e.g. amino acids, sugar, lactic acid, proteins, cholesterol, certain aromatics, some perfumes, should not be applied to the skin, as they may counteract the repellent action. The use of film-forming agents is recommended, as this guarantees a homogeneous distribution of the repellent and an optimum retention time on the skin.
You will find all relevant documents and certificates concerning your chosen product on request.
For manufacturing emulsions, IR3535® can be heated up to 80°C. The optimal pH value of formulations with IR3535® is 6.6 – 8.0
